A Note from our Founder

I want to be thoughtful about how I communicate this message because ultimately my intention is to sell a product. I also struggle with the idea that people should turn to the consumer sector to pursue health and wellness, despite knowing things can be found there that support well-being. With this in mind, here’s a bit of my backstory and what led to the creation of Rose Caps.

At twenty-seven I was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer that started in my sigmoid colon. At first, I felt exceptional for getting it. There’s something about cancer which makes you feel special; like you’ve been chosen. For a while it felt like the most interesting part of me—all the special attention I received for being sick. I got pretty good at letting cancer define who I was. But after a year of rigorous treatment, I grew tired of this persona. I wanted to think of myself as someone who was healing rather than someone defined by their deteriorating insides. I was determined to be an active participant in getting better.

Despite working with a great oncologist at UCSF, I had little faith in the greater medical industry's power to make me healthy again. After a foot of my colon was removed, the first meal given to me in the hospital was a hastily-prepared beef and broccoli dish no better than airplane food. Beholding it on my bed tray with a vague idea of what the surgery entailed twelve hours earlier, it was hard to fathom how processing this meal would be possible.

Friends popped up left and right sharing recommendations for alternative treatments to help heal me. I was open-minded and willing to try most anything. Even the doctors at UCSF offered to involve me in some alt therapy trials like the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. I got acupuncture, experimented with a variety of supplement combinations, and became aware of every food I ate with the hope that something would work. Still, everything failed. I soon realized the state of my GI tract was worsening. I started to resent people for their suggestions and the false hope they gave me. I looked at the world of products around me and despised the companies selling them. How could they be so irresponsible with people's trust? How could they treat the severely-ill consumer who desperately hoped for their own success story so lightly?

I was working in cannabis while undergoing treatment because not much else was available to me given my intensive hospital appointment schedule. I took note of the variety of ways cannabis was useful and the comfort it could offer in an uncomfortable time. I had reached a complicated point in my life in which I thought everything I ate was responsible for killing me. My stomach was in knots at each meal. But a tiny amount of cannabis gave me the opportunity to relax, enjoy food, and appreciate the experience of eating.

Later on as my professional experience with the cannabis/CBD industry deepened, I became familiar with how companies engineered their products. I noticed a lot of companies promoting items that claimed to care for people’s health, when in fact I knew their sights were set mainly on profit margins, scalability, and the bottom line. I saw how willing they were to cut corners throughout production and violate vulnerable people's trust for the sake of their own financial gain.

The sum of all of this became my motivation to create a CBD product that puts our relationship to nature and the quality of our ingredients above everything else. I was determined to offer people the best product possible and to avoid manipulative marketing language and fancy packaging disguising poor quality. To achieve this we made Rose Caps from plants found in nature, pressed without chemicals or additives, and using only olive oil to activate the purest and most potent CBD rosin.

We provide no guarantees regarding what Rose Caps can do for your health. We do believe, however, if there is a CBD product worthy of trying as an alternative therapy, there isn’t a more natural or higher quality option than these Caps.
